Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction
Slot highlighted known failings from his team in their European defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
He stated, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
