Chief Executive Endorses Bill to Disclose Additional Epstein Files After Period of Opposition

Donald Trump declared on Wednesday evening that he had approved the measure resoundingly passed by American lawmakers that instructs the federal justice agency to make public more documents related to the convicted sex offender, the deceased sex offender.

This action arrives after months of pushback from the president and his political allies in Congress that fractured his Maga base and caused divisions with some of his longtime supporters.

Trump had opposed disclosing the Epstein files, describing the issue a "hoax" and condemning those who wanted to make the records accessible, despite promising their publication on the election circuit.

Nevertheless he reversed course in the last week after it was evident the House of Representatives would pass the legislation. Trump commented: "We have nothing to hide".

It's not clear what the justice department will disclose in response to the bill – the measure specifies a host of potential items that need to be disclosed, but includes exemptions for certain documents.

The President Signs Measure to Compel Publication of Additional Epstein Records

The bill mandates the attorney general to make non-classified related documents open for review "available for online access", encompassing every inquiry into Epstein, his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, flight logs and movement logs, individuals cited or listed in relation to his crimes, organizations that were tied to his exploitation or economic systems, protection agreements and further court deals, official correspondence about prosecution choices, records of his imprisonment and passing, and information about possible record elimination.

The department will have thirty days to submit the files. The bill contains some exceptions, such as removals of personal details of victims or individual documents, any depictions of child sexual abuse, releases that would endanger active investigations or court proceedings and depictions of death or mistreatment.
