Fans eagerly awaiting the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined don't need to wait the full month. A highly anticipated demo version is set to release on Jan. 7, providing a generous look into the game's initial chapters. Notably, any advancement earned within this demo is eligible to be imported directly into the complete game upon its subsequent launch.
Beyond Just a Simple Remake: A Thorough Transformation
This project is a ground-up reimagining of the seminal year 2000 RPG, initially titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a significant step away from recent series re-releases, like the previously released HD-2D versions, this reimagining utilizes a charming 3D aesthetic. The world are designed to evoke detailed model sets, with characters having a appealing toy-like look.
"Taking into account the previous remake, the story was remained exceptionally lengthy. So we reached a decision that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] make this adventure for contemporary players."
Major Gameplay Improvements & Updates
The development team has added several changes to refresh the original gameplay loop. These include:
- Streamlined Overworld Battles: Taking a cue from contemporary RPGs, weaker monsters can now be defeated instantly on the overworld map eliminating the need for entering a separate traditional battle sequence.
- Variable Battle Pace: Players can speed up combat animations to quickly power through simpler encounters.
- Expanded Vocation Mechanics: One completely new character role was introduced for this remake. Additionally, characters now have the option to take on a second job, significantly expanding strategic depth.
Such alterations seek to address one of the original game's common criticisms: its daunting length. The initial adventure could easily require more than 100 hours to see through. This new version has been expressly designed to improve progression and cut down on any filler.
