Liverpool's Manager Provides No Excuses and Pledges to Find Route From Malaise

Arne Slot stated he needed to “look at myself” following Liverpool endured a 6th loss in 7 Premier League games on their own turf to Forest and insisted he would discover a way from the title holders' poor run.

Nottingham Forest, fighting against the drop prior to the match, produced the largest victory at Anfield in their club records as the Merseyside club slipped to an eighth defeat in 11 matches in every tournament. The most expensive domestic acquisition, Alexander Isak, was again unnoticeable and Liverpool contended the defender's opener should have been disallowed for similar reasons to Virgil van Dijk’s chalked-off goal against City before the national team pause. But the manager admitted the buck rested with him and made no excuses.

“No one wants to hear me now speaking about officiating calls if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Forest,” said the Reds' boss. “I should look at my own role initially and my team, but it does show you how a score can alter the flow of a match. Before I was just hoping for us to score a goal. Later we hardly created any chances.

“Naturally there is a way out, especially with the quality footballers we have. No matter if you triumph or lose when you reflect you are always considering: ‘In which areas can we do better, in what aspects can we adjust?’ but that is different from doubting your abilities.

“I want to emphasise I am responsible for the present defeats. You are responsible when you are winning but also responsible when you are losing. I can never provide sufficient reasons for us to have the outcomes we have. That is not good enough and I am responsible for that.”

Liverpool’s performance fell apart as the coach made several attacking substitutions when pursuing the match. “It was the same on the road at Forest the previous campaign,” he remarked. “I substituted Ibou [Ibrahima Konaté] off and brought on the Portuguese forward and he scored immediately to equalize at 1-1. Then it was courageous, now it’s probably unwise.”

The Anfield side last lost two successive home league games by Nottingham Forest in 1963. The most recent occasion they suffered consecutive league games by a three-goal scoreline was in 1965.

The manager commented: “It was extremely poor. Playing on home soil, losing 3-0 no matter which opponent you face is a terrible outcome. Surprising if you look at the opening 30 minutes of the game. I did not witness us producing so many chances in the initial half-hour maybe the entire campaign, and the initial occasion they arrived in our box they found the back of the net.

“It wasn’t at City, but in every other fixture we have been the dominant side and were able to generate opportunities. Recently it is almost constantly that we fail to convert our chances and the ones we allow find the net.”
