President Trump Welcomes Relatives of Injured National Guard Soldiers to White House

Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a National Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.

He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.

Details on the Devastating Incident

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.

Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.

Presidential Invitation

The president said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I told them: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president informed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Reaction

Community members gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to remember Sarah.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s national effort to support law enforcement in DC.

Remembering Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, told the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always ready to help others.”

Service details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.

Legal Steps and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and charges of attempted murder while armed.

The tragedy caused the administration to pause asylum applications and temporarily stop granting entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Andrew Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Morrisey stated on a news program.

Attorney general Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she planned to visit Wolfe’s family.

Impact of the Fallen Soldier

Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with honor, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” he told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
