A National Colour Scheme and Familiar Emblem

The new livery showcases a Union Flag-inspired palette to represent the national flag and will be applied on GBR trains, at railway stations, and across its online presence.

Notably, the emblem is the well-known twin-arrow design currently used by National Rail and previously created in the mid-20th century for the former state operator.

A Implementation Timeline

The implementation of the branding, which was created by the department, is scheduled to occur over time.

Commuters are set to start spotting the newly-branded trains throughout the UK rail network from spring next year.

Throughout December, the design will be showcased at prominent railway stations, including Leeds City.

The Path to Nationalisation

The Railways Bill, which will enable the establishment of GBR, is currently progressing through the House of Commons.

The government has stated it is renationalising the railways so the network is "owned by the passengers, working for the passengers, not for corporate interests."

Great British Railways will bring the running of train services and infrastructure under a single organisation.

The department has stated it will combine 17 separate organisations and "eliminate the notorious administrative hurdles and accountability gap that has long affected the railways."

Digital Features and Current Ownership

The rollout of Great British Railways will also involve a new app, which will let passengers to view timetables and reserve journeys free from booking fees.

Passengers with disabilities users will also be able to use the application to arrange support.

Several franchises had previously been nationalised under the former administration, including LNER.

There are currently 7 operating companies already in public hands, accounting for about a third of passenger trips.

In the past year, Greater Anglia have been nationalised, with more likely to follow in 2026.

Ministerial and Sector Comments

"This is more than a cosmetic change," said the relevant minister. It symbolises "a fresh start, shedding the issues of the previous system and dedicated completely on providing a reliable public service."

Industry figures have responded positively to the government's commitment to enhancing services.

"We will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless transition to GBR," a senior figure said.
