The Reform UK leader Accuses Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts within weeks a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “harming young minds” by instructing students that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his viewpoint on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a teachers’ strike soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to be ashamed of their country. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is a victim and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”
In response to these assertions, Daniel Kebede rejected the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to educators’ working conditions, and questioned whether Reform would attack these right after taking office.
“The politician has crafted his public life on coded rhetoric and currently, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their organizations for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would sell out our public services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
The party, which tops surveys by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have designated an education lead.
Nonetheless, his comments indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. Farage declared: “We have got a massive job with education – absolutely herculean. Moreover, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
Farage expressed that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Honoring Charlie Kirk, he commented: “All I want education to do to foster independent thought – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind rather than what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “extremist and prejudiced” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned through education, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and has argued that the union is trying to indoctrinate youth opposed to his party.
Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for children.
At the US event, the Reform leader also pledged to help spread the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, adding that: “I mean this. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of youth to your online courses. I pledge this now and I will follow through.”
The institution, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to maintain the benefits of freedom. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to every interested learner.”
