'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Loved Ones of Unaccounted For Teenagers Await News After Alpine Inferno
The relatives of young people lost after a tragic inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's alpine town are facing an agonising period of uncertainty for answers and appealing for clues about their loved ones online.
The blaze ripped through the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of January 1st. Confirmed video depict the roof structure catching alight as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Officials have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which resulted in the death of 40 people and wounded another scores more. Officials noted on Friday that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with work continuing to name the other six.
In the waiting period, families and friends have been taking to social media to appeal for information about their loved ones who were at the bar that fateful night.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The location of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are currently unknown, according to an public plea from his parent.
The resident of Lutry near the city, told a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the equivalent search in Bern, but was unsuccessful.
"I'm living a nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in a serious state. It's horrific," she told the paper.
She explained that some of his companions had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they endured a terrifying ordeal."
The Italy's government has indicated that six of its citizens are still unaccounted for.
Included in that group is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage promising athlete, originally from Italy but now residing in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has said that he is dead, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "young athlete who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His parent, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around the new year. An official spokesperson has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is not yet.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise among the missing. His parent told reporters that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"A companion said they escaped after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a identifiable gold chain.
One of his teachers stated, "I've always been struck by his kindness and smile, combined with great responsibility. He would frequently ask if get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to sources.
Her brother has posted an appeal online, saying the family has had "no news" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her other nation say they are continuing to monitor the situation.
